Nonpareil Cottage, Creuse, France
Vivian Bridaham Banta and John Banta recently bought a very special, architect designed vacation rental, in the center of France.
The location in one of the least populated Departements of France, is famous for its’ Limousin cows and dark night skies! Our house is located in a calm, peaceful, quiet, and beautiful Hamlet. This landscape relaxes your being. Large granite rock outcroppings covered in lichen, are on the property, reflecting the purity of the air.
A contemporary house built around 12 years ago is inside a stone house and barn from the 1700s with walls 2’ thick. It is in a small Hamlet surrounded by farms. Because of very little light pollution, the night skies are very famous in La Creuse for stargazing. We sit out on our front deck in the middle of the night gazing at the falling stars and the satellites passing overhead and the enormous Milky Way. We fell in love with this house when we first saw it. The architecture and the craftsmanship really impressed us. As we have lived in it, we appreciate it even more!
As you spend time and live in an architect designed home you appreciate the nuances and the very special features that you don’t understand at first glance. We have a Spa on the Mezzanine floor. The beautiful circular Hot Tub with underwater small round lights that can change color, is intriguing and delightful. After you have relaxed, you get out and lie on a daybed looking up at the sky through a roof window. It is a deeply relaxing time.
The house has a large original Walk In Fireplace in the Living Room. When it is cool, it can be the entertainment for a full day, just tending the fire. The house sleeps 10 and has 4 bedrooms and a Bunkroom.
The Bulthaup Kitchen, “an attitude towards life and attention to detail” a living space for all cooks to enjoy! Refrigerated drawers, Miele dishwasher, fully equipped, and with a Rayburn Wood Stove to take the chill off on a cool morning.
The Front Enclosed Deck, with Phillipe Starck oversized chairs and lounging chairs and picnic table and a gas fired Bar B Q. This is a great private space for kids to play freely and contained and for all to gather during the day and evening.
The Heated Pool with UV Filtration is in the backyard safely covered when not in use. Lounge chairs on the lawn for private relaxing.
Around the Hamlet are private walking trails that walk through the farms and past a lake and Chateau, within a few minutes of the house.
Peyrat-la -Noniere is a 2 minute drive away, with an Epicerie, a butcher shop, and hairdresser and a bar. Aubusson, a Medieval Tapestrie town and Felletin, that hosts a wonderful Friday Market are within 20 minutes of the house.
